Topic: Electronics Engineering

The maximum range of a monostatic Radar is R. If a target having a Radar cross-section of $10m^{2}$ exists at $R/2$ what should be the target cross-section at $3R/2$ to result in an equal signal strength at the Radar?

  • A. $90~m^{2}$
  • B. $270~m^{2}$
  • C. $810~m^{2}$
  • D. $30~m^{2}$

Answer: C. $810~m^{2}$

Explanation: $R \alpha (\sigma)^{1/4}$. $\frac{\frac{R}{2}}{\frac{3R}{2}}=(\frac{10}{A_{new}})^{1/4} \Rightarrow (\frac{1}{3})^{4}=\frac{10}{A_{new}}$. $A_{new}=10\times(3)^{4}=810~m^{2}$.
